A poor family in the central province of Ha Tinh is in desperate need of help to provide medical care for their children who suffer from heart disease and cancer.
Nguyen Thi Soa, from Tri Nang Hamlet, Thach Khe Commune, is now in charge of taking care of their five-month old baby, who suffers from heart disease and pneumonia.
Baby in desperate situation
The baby, Le Duc Quy, is literally teetering on the verge of death, bringing great distress to his mother.
Doctor Nguyen Duc Quy, from the hospital where he is being treated, said, “This baby has suffered from heart disease since birth. Now his condition has become more serious due to pneumonia. His life could be saved by a surgery, but we are currently unable to operate because he is in critical condition."
“All I want to do is to kiss my baby. I’m afraid that he will leave us at any moment. He has been ill since he was born, and had to stay at hospital. Once we ran out of money to pay for the medical treatment we thought of just taking him home. Now we intend to take him to Hue Central Hospital in hopes he will get better treatment there. We still hope that we will be able to find the funding for this," the mother said.
This is not the first time the family has befallen bad luck. Their eight-year old son has suffered from blood cancer for four years. His treatment has been stopped due to lack of money.
Nguyen Duy Duong, the hamlet’s party secretary said, “Two out of three children in Soa’s family were ill. They are in a desperate situation. Treatment for their children costs too much and they had to borrow money from many neighbours. Now they are looking at an uncertain future, with ill children and large debts.”
Currently the family is living on a very modest income, earned by the father who works in construction.
