DTiNews Newspaper helped open three new classrooms for pupils at a remote school in Yen Bai Province on May 30.
DTiNews Deputy Editor-in-chief Pham Tuan Anh, Yen Bai Province Vice Chairman Nguyen Chien Thang, Chairman of Van Chan District, leaders of Son Luong Commune and parents, pupils and teachers of Son Luong Kindergarten attended the inauguration ceremony.
The kindergarten in Lam Village was built in 2010 for ethnic children, 80% of which have difficult backgrounds. Only half of the school’s eight classrooms were in good condition. Pupils had to study inside the kitchen and sleep by the buffalo barn.
After the story about the kindergarten was published, many readers donated, raising VND611m (USD27,700) to build three new classrooms for the pupils. The Golden Gate Corporation donated VND150m, Amway Vietnam Company donated VND50m for the construction and VND18.5m as scholarships for the pupils. Vietnam National Roofsheet Association donated VND46m.
Pham Tuan Anh said, "We want to express our gratitude to the local authorities who created favourable conditions to speed up the construction. We also want to thank all readers and sponsors like Golden Gate, Tan A Dai Thanh Corporation, Amway Vietnam and Vietnam National Roofsheet Association who helped to build new classrooms. From now on, the pupils can finally have real classrooms with proper equipment that they need."
DTiNews Newspaper also gave 10 scholarships worth VND1m each and 20 that worth VND500,000 each for poor pupils. Readers also donated clothes and other equipment for the kindergarten playground such as see-saw and swing set.
Nguyen Thi Bich Huong, head of Son Luong Kindergarten, expressed gratitude to everyone. "For our staff and parents, this is really a dream comes true," she said.
