A lonely boy in central Ha Tinh Province will have a happier Tet thanks to the generosity of DTiNews readers, who have offered donations to help him after his mother died late last year.

DTiNews readers help lonely boy over Tet
Ho Phi Uoc, 14, has lived alone in a rundown hut in Dong Van Hamlet of Thach Van Commune after his mother, Ho Thi Mong, died late last year of stomach cancer. Mong's husband abandoned her after she became pregnant with Uoc, and had struggled to raise and educate him until she fell ill.
DTiNews readers responded to Uoc's plight, and a representative of the newspaper visited the boy and gave him VND5m to make this Tet less painful.
Mong was unable to afford medical treatment and tried to work up until her painful death.
Uoc is now alone. His relatives are too poor to support him.
“Even though Tet has come I don’t have anything for the festival,” Uoc said.
After DTiNews told his story, several readers have donated money to help support him and enable him to continue his education.
Uoc wants to become a policeman.
