DTiNews reporters have helped to transfer a total donation of VND68 million (USD3,200) from readers to an orphan girl who is now living alone in the central province of Ha Tinh.
Representatives from local authorities and DTiNews reporters grant VND68 million to Phuong
The donation comes after a story about Nguyen Thanh Phuong was published on DTiNews recently.
Phuong who lost her parents now has to live alone in a dilapidated tent and earn a living to support herself by doing various jobs in a very difficult situation, but still earns good grades. Now, she carries bricks for a local workshop.
Phuong’s uncle and aunt are both very poor, so she cannot ask for their support.
Every month, she earns between VND400,000-VND600,000 (USD19-28.6), only enough to get by from day to day and pay school fees.
After certifying Phuong’s condition, DTiNews reporters worked with local authorities to propose a land grant to build a house for the girl.
Ngo Xuan Truong, Vice Chairman of Phong Phu Commune, has urged local agencies for a grant to build a house for her. The procedures have been completed and submitted to the district People’s Committee for approval.
To date, Phuong has received a total donation of VND130 million from different sources. She thanked DTiNews readers as well as both local and foreign donors for their assistance to help ease her difficult situation.
Phuong said an overseas Vietnamese in Germany wanted to admit her as his foster daughter and promised to pay tuition fees for her to study in a university in Hung Yen Province. This is a great surprise for her, but she now has to consider this option.
Vo Van Trinh, Head of the Board of Culture and Information of Huong Khe District, thanked DTiNews readers’ donations to Phuong. He also said that local authorities have been speeding up procedures to grant land and build a house for Phuong before the storm reason.
