A10-year-old boy in Ha Tinh Province, abandoned by his mother, is in desperate need of community help to treat his urinary and digestive problem.
Ngo Thai Phat is the only son of Ngo Thai Hai, 38. In 2003, Hai got married, and one year later, the couple had a boy named Phat. Unluckily, the son was born with the disease and had to have portions of his large intestine removed.

The already poor life of the couple has become worse since their son was diagnosed. After they borrowed hundreds of millions of VND to take the boy to the hospital the young wife left home to be with another man.
At the age of 10, but Phat weighs less than 19kg. The father has to work very hard to earn money to buy medicine for his son. He constantly has to go to the south for work, leaving the boy with his 70-year old grandmother.
Phat needs to wear a colostomy bag because of his surgery.
Despite his numerous difficulties, the little boy has had good results at school in the last four years. He is at the top of his class, and considered one of the best students at his school.

When asked about his disease, he looked down and cried, saying that “I am not frightened of pain. My biggest fear is that my mother will not come back."
Phat’s teacher, Nguyen Thi Xuan, remarked that he has a strong will. The school supports him with books and other learning supplies.
Phat’s grandfather also suffers from diabetes, adding more pressure to the family. To date, the family’s total debts have climbed to nearly VND300 million (USD14,285).
