Sixty-five Vietnamese folk paintings are on display at an exhibition, which officially opened on July 27, as a part of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-France diplomatic ties.
The works are typical folk paintings from well-known painting villages, such as the Dong Ho in Bac Ninh province, the Hang Trong (Hanoi) and the Sinh Village (Thua Thien – Hue province), as well as ancient worship paintings from Vu Di (Vinh Phuc province) and Doc Loi (Nghe An province).
The exhibition reflects Vietnamese people’s life, including working in rice paddies, feeding animals and conducting worships.
The event, co-organised by the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France, aims to help French friends enhance their understanding of the quintessential colours and meanings of the Vietnamese folk painting genre, which are made of traditional materials with an original artistry.
The exhibition will run until September 16.
