At the ceremony on Thursday, Ho Sy Hung, chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the Outstanding Vietnamese supplier 2025 title was both recognition and of strategic importance, supporting government policy to build a competitive Vietnamese business community.
He said that as global supply chains are being restructured, Vietnamese suppliers must move beyond the role of simple production units to become strategic partners with stronger technology, higher innovation capacity and improved value chain management, while meeting sustainability requirements.
Reviewing 40 years since the start of Doi moi (Renewal) in 1986, Hung said Vietnam has achieved significant progress. Average income per capita has risen more than 67 times, from USD 74 to USD 5,026, while total trade value is equivalent to nearly 200 per cent of GDP, among the highest levels of economic openness globally.
He noted that 2025 is marked by global economic volatility but also new opportunities as supply chains continue to shift. Investors are increasingly seeking stable, reliable, flexible and sustainable supply ecosystems rather than focusing solely on low costs. In this context, suppliers are expected to play a larger strategic role in improving product quality, increasing added value and helping the economy withstand external shocks.
The selection process took several months and screened hundreds of registered enterprises. Evaluations were based on three main criteria groups: operational capacity and production efficiency; technology capacity and innovation; and value chain governance and sustainable development, including ESG practices and international certifications.
From the business perspective, a representative of TOMECO said the title should be seen not as an end goal but as motivation for further improvement. The most valuable aspect of the programme, the company said, was the self review process against clear standards, helping firms define long term development directions in operations, technology, innovation and sustainable value chain management.
The representative added that the title carries both honour and responsibility amid complex geopolitical developments, increasing automation, stricter green standards and the shift towards service oriented manufacturing.
An exhibition held alongside the ceremony showcased products, solutions and capabilities of the awarded suppliers, creating opportunities for direct buyer supplier connections. The Outstanding Vietnamese supplier programme is chaired by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with support from VietinBank and the VCCI Intellectual Property Company, and is held every two years to promote cooperation and sustainable economic development.
