Authorities in Hoai An Commune, Gia Lai Province, said on August 24 that firefighters had successfully contained and extinguished a plantation forest fire in An Chieu Village.
According to preliminary information, the fire first broke out on August 23 in an acacia plantation in An Chieu Village. Although it was initially brought under control by emergency crews and local residents, the blaze unexpectedly reignited around midday on August 24.
Officials said approximately 100 people were mobilised to fight the fire. Military personnel were also deployed to assist local authorities and residents in containing the flames.
Hot weather and strong winds significantly complicated firefighting operations, allowing the fire to spread quickly and making containment efforts more difficult.
Authorities in Hoai An Commune said personnel would remain stationed at the site overnight to monitor conditions and respond rapidly to any further flare-ups.
Initial investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by the burning of vegetation and forest undergrowth. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and continuing their investigation.
Earlier, another plantation forest fire occurred in the Dau Voi Mountain area of Hoi Son Commune, Gia Lai Province.
The affected area was located on steep mountainous terrain, and strong winds made it difficult for emergency crews to reach and extinguish the blaze.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished by the evening of August 22. Authorities are currently calculating the area of forest affected by the incident.
