Vietnamese caught in Mozambique for rhino horns trafficking

The Mozambican police have arrested a Vietnamese citizen who attempted to transport six rhino horns weighing about 17kg through Maputo International Airport.

The Mozambican police have arrested a Vietnamese citizen who attempted to transport six rhino horns weighing about 17kg through Maputo International Airport.

According to the Mozambique News Agency (AIM), Ho Chien was arrested when he was boarding an international flight on February 24.

In his suitcase the horns were carefully packed with garlic to prevent the stinky odor of rotten meat in aluminum wrapping paper.

AIM said these horns were likely from the illegally hunted rhinos in South Africa believed to become extinct in southern Mozambique.

It also said that Chien could earn US$1.1 million if he succeeded in carrying them to Vietnam.

Last year, the Mozambican police detected three cases of illegal rhino horns trafficked by three Vietnamese citizens.
