Inland container depots are an important part of the seaport system
According to the plan, the depots will have the capacity to deal with 4 to 6.8 million TEU a year by 2020, or 15-20% of the demand to use seaport system. It is expected that the capacity will reach 12 to 17.6 million TEU by 2030.
19 depots are expected to be completed by 2020, covering 580 to 755 hectares and up to 1,295 hectares in 2030. The project to develop depots to 2030 needs VND20trn to VND22trn of investment and the government plans to call for investment from private sector.
The Ministry of Transport was asked to work with local authorities and related agencies to make detail planning, issue directives and manage.
Inland container depots are an important part of the seaport system. The government will prioritise depots at locations that connect with rail or inland waterways to develop multi-modal transport in order to reduce travel times and transport costs for businesses.
