Danang posts 9.52 per cent growth in first half

Danang's economy grew by 9.52 per cent in the first six months of 2026, although the city fell short of its target of achieving double digit growth, according to local statistics officials.

The Danang Statistics Office said on July 2 that the city's socio economic performance showed strong momentum during the first half of 2026.

Tran Van Vu, head of the Danang Statistics Office, said the city's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) was estimated to have risen 9.52 per cent year on year.

First quarter growth reached 9.28 per cent, followed by 9.72 per cent in the second quarter, reflecting a clear economic recovery and sustained expansion. The services sector remained the city's main growth driver, expanding by 9.31 per cent and contributing more than half of overall economic growth.

State budget revenue in the first six months was estimated at VND 51.77 trillion (approximately USD 1.98 billion), up 91.4 per cent from a year earlier. Of the total, central government revenue accounted for VND 12.26 trillion (approximately USD 469 million), while local budget revenue reached VND 39.50 trillion (approximately USD 1.51 billion).

Nationally, Danang ranked 13th among Vietnam's 34 provinces and cities for GRDP growth and topped the South Central Coast region. In terms of economic scale, the city ranked 11th nationwide, accounting for around 2.57 per cent of the country's GDP.

Vu said the city's first half performance did not meet the central government's target of double digit growth. He attributed the shortfall to the city's focus on restructuring its administrative apparatus during the first half of the year, along with several other factors affecting economic activity.

"These rankings show that Danang has not only maintained a high growth rate but has also continued to expand its economic scale, reinforcing its role as the economic, commercial and services hub of central Vietnam. The results also reflect the efforts of the city's entire political system," Vu said.

According to the head of the Danang Statistics Office, the city will implement a range of measures in the second half of the year in an effort to achieve its annual growth target.
