The vaccines will be prioritised for high-risk areas, particularly southern cities and provinces, Tuyen said, adding that these localities need to complete the second Covid-19 vaccine jab for people given with the first shot and expand the vaccination at industrial parks, export processing zones, tourism resorts and enterprises providing necessity services.

By September 28, 12 south-western localities administered over 3.4 million out of a total 3.7 million doses of allocated Covid-19 vaccine, equal to 93 percent of the population. Among those, 2.77 million people were provided with the first jab, while 689,740 were given a second.

Most south-western localities have ensured the vaccination target with the highest rate of 87 percent in Hau Giang, 82 percent in Soc Trang, 82 percent in An Giang and 67 percent in Kien Giang. However, some provinces such as Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Tra Vinh post the lowest rate of 17-18 percent.

Around 4-8 percent of people aged from 18 in the southwestern region have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
