Vietnam confirms its national sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes. Any activities in the area without Vietnam’s consent violate Vietnam’s national sovereignty and the country definitely protests. Vietnam Foreign Ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi made the affirmation at a March 7 press briefing in reply to reporters’ question on Vietnam’s reaction to China’s mobilization of several maritime patrol ships to the East Sea, including Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) islands.
Also at the press briefing, Nghi informed several upcoming visits by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, including his participation at a cooperative high-level meeting between Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam in Vientiane.
