Vietnam’s first batch of polypropylene has been tested to be of high quality. |
Polypropylene is a plastic polymer, widely used in textiles, packaging, clothing, cars and even banknotes. This success has marked an important turning point for the Vietnam petrochemical industry.
In terms of quality, the polypropylene produced met the industry’s required standards and even matched the quality of polypropylene that had been previously imported from overseas. Vietnam now will be able to produce its own polypropylene for industries that have a high demand of this product.
Dung Quat Polypropylene Plant is the first petrochemical project of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery. The construction of the plant began in February, 2008, with a total investment amount of over USD 235 million. The plant will be capable of producing 150,000 tonnes of polypropylene per year.
For now, all polypropylene products will be sold to the Drilling Mud Joint Stock Company (DMC) and PetroVietnam General Services Joint Stock Company (PetroSetco).
The Polypropylene Plant is expected to be put in full operation by September. The factory is expected to be able to create a turnover of USD 170 - 200 million a year and a profit of USD 15 - 20 million a year.
