Chief of the General Staff General Do Ba Ty attended the 13th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM-13) on March 14 in Laos under the theme“Strengthening defense cooperation for a dynamic ASEAN community.”

At the meeting, the ASEAN chiefs of defence forces discussed measures to consolidate mutual understanding, strengthen confidence and cooperation.
The delegates talked cooperative methods in response to traditional and non-traditional threats.
They also listened to reports of the 13th ASEAN Military Intelligence Informal Meeting (AMIIM-13) and the 6th Military Operations Informal Meeting (AMOIM-6).
Chiefs of ACDFIM presented speeches and discussed the ASEAN military cooperation plan in the 2016-2018 and adopted a joint declaration.
Earlier, Chief of the General Staff General Do Ba Ty talked withhis Lao counterpart Lieutenant General Suvone Luongbounmy, Head of the Philippines’ delegation Lieutenant General Romeo Tanalgo, and Myanmar’s Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Min Aung Hlaing.
During the event, the Vietnamese delegation continued to upholdthe country’s role and position in regional and international levels through multinational forums on defence, asserting the Vietnamese Party and State’s diversified, active and responsible policies used in the international integration process.
The participation in the event demonstrated the Vietnam army’s aspiration to boost its relations with armies of other ASEAN member countries in a mutual effort to maintain peace, stability and development in the region towards realising the ASEAN Political Security Community’s targets.
It also demonstrated Viet Nam’s support for the host country in its role as ASEAN’s Chair in 2016.
