The third Vietnam-Japan University Rectors' Conference opened in the central city of Da Nang on September 28, with more than 200 delegates representing managers from 30 Japanese universities and their 40 Vietnamese counterparts.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga said education and training in Vietnam and Japan had reached greater heights through strategic agreements on education signed in Tokyo in 2013.
Japan helped Vietnam's education sector improve the training capacity of Vietnamese universities, and enhance personnel training for the Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power plant and nuclear science for peaceful purposes.
Ga said he believed education projects and co-operation would develop in quantity and quality.
Participants discussed training students at Japanese firms working in Vietnam, assigning professional Japanese professors and lecturers to Vietnamese schools and increasing scientific research opportunities.
Japan, a significant strategic partner for Vietnam and its largest official development assistance provider in fields such as education and training, also provides scholarships for Vietnamese students and trainees studying in Japan.
On the occasion, a co-operation agreement was signed between the University of Da Nang and Yokohama National University.
The two-day event is being hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training; and the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
