In his address, Deputy PM Dam said the use of information communications technology in Vietnam has expanded rapidly in both the public and private sectors over the past year.
“Vietnam is one of the five top tier nations experiencing the fastest growth— well over the 16% average global rate,” Dam said, thanks to entrepreneurs and start up ventures creating new and innovative products.
Though these new products have been widely acclaimed around the globe, Dam expressed concern with the country’s UN E-Government Ranking, which dropped 19 grades to 99th place in the world.
He encouraged collaboration of those in attendance at the forum in order that they get the most out of their experience in the hope that it would benefit the advancement of technology and contribute to the nation’s sustainable development.
Information and Communications (MoIT) Minister Nguyen Bac Son in turn shared Dam’s sentiments and said a continually evolving marketplace creates issues and challenges for ICT professionals.
Son challenged those in attendance to keep pace with and identify new approaches to stay on top of rapid changes in science, technology, policy and organizational structure.
This summit is an ideal forum to share information and best practices, Son said.
Four major issues are on agenda at the forum – improving the capacity of the health care sector, improving state management capacity and quality of public services, developing smart transport and developing ICT human resources.
