Ao Tien Port cuts fees for Co To, Van Don island residents

Authorities at Ao Tien Port in Quang Ninh Province will waive or reduce passenger fees for residents and public-sector workers travelling to island communes in Co To and Van Don.

The preferential policy will apply from May 1, 2026 to May 30, 2027, with discounts ranging from 50-100 per cent.

Under the scheme, public officials, civil servants, military personnel and residents working on five islands in Van Don and Co To will receive full exemptions from passenger port fees.

Permanent residents aged 70 and above, as well as children aged three to five living on the eligible islands, will also be exempt.

Other permanent residents of the islands will receive a 50 per cent discount.

Eligible passengers must present identification documents or digital identification via the VNeID app, while public-sector employees must provide work identification or assignment documents.

Ao Tien Port currently charges VND 50,000 (USD 1.9) per passenger aged six and above, and VND 20,000 for passengers aged 70 to 80 and children aged three to five.

Passengers over 80 and children under three are already exempt.

The current fee structure has been in place since early 2025.
