After the House of Representative adopted the human rights bills HR. 1410, Faleomavaega told a VOV reporter on September 12 that he disagreed with some congressmen saying that the Vietnamese government has not implemented human rights principles.
According to the congressman, the reality of human rights implementation in Vietnam is not reflected in the right way and the bill goes against the US administration’s efforts to strengthen ties with Vietnam in recent years.
HR 1410, which calls on the US government to cut non-charitable aid for Vietnam for what is called “human rights promotion” in the country, will be submitted to the Senate for approval.
So far, no human rights bills on Vietnam have been adopted by the US Senate.
