The country's cumulative rice exports reached 7.02 million tonnes, valued at nearly USD 3.59 billion, down 4.4 per cent in volume and 21.9 per cent in value from the same period last year, VFA data showed.

Last week, 5 per cent broken jasmine rice was offered at USD 420-435 per tonne, near a two-month low. A trader in Ho Chi Minh City said domestic trading remained subdued as many exporters slowed paddy purchases from farmers due to weak overseas demand.

In the domestic market, jasmine paddy traded at VND 5,379 (USD 0.20) per kilogramme, down VND 21 from the previous week. In contrast, ordinary paddy rose by VND 46 to an average of VND 5,161 per kilogramme, according to the VFA.

In the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, jasmine paddy held steady at VND 8,400 per kilogramme, OM 18 at VND 6,800, IR 5451 at VND 6,200, and ST25 at VBD VND 9,400, according to the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Environment.

The An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment reported fresh paddy prices ranging from VND 4,800 - 5,900 per kilogramme, depending on variety, while retail rice prices in the province stood between VND 12,000 - 22,000 per kilogramme.

On production, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that by October 20, Mekong Delta provinces had sown nearly 1.24 million hectares of the 2025 summer-autumn crop and completed harvesting, with an average yield of 6.06 tonnes per hectare, equivalent to an estimated 7.51 million tonnes of paddy.

For the autumn-winter crop, 763,000 hectares had been planted, equivalent to 102.8 per cent of the plan, with 263,000 hectares harvested at an average yield of 5.68 tonnes per hectare.
