The Ministry of National Defence on December 31 held a ceremony to present State President decisions assigning the officers to missions in the Central African Republic and the United Nations Liaison Office for Peace and Security.

Notably, three of the four officers are women. Among them is Lieutenant Colonel Vu Thi Lien from the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, who has been appointed as a security and defence policy expert at the UN Liaison Office for Peace and Security in Brussels, Belgium. She is the first Vietnamese female officer selected for a position at a UN liaison office.

The remaining officers will assume key roles at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic, including military public information officer, contingent owned equipment staff officer and training staff officer.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, deputy minister of national defence, congratulated the officers and praised the thorough preparation and training carried out by relevant units.

He said Vietnam has so far deployed more than 1,300 officers and personnel to UN peacekeeping missions and UN headquarters, all of whom have received strong evaluations from the United Nations and international partners.

General Thang urged the newly deployed officers to uphold the traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army, demonstrate professionalism and adaptability, comply with UN regulations and host country laws, and maintain exemplary conduct on and off duty.

He also encouraged them to promote Vietnam’s culture and national image, contributing to the credibility and reputation of the Vietnam People’s Army on the international stage.

The latest deployment reflects Vietnam’s policy of proactive and responsible international integration and its commitment to contributing to global peace and security, while highlighting the expanding role of female officers in specialised and senior peacekeeping positions.
