An additional 15,586 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Saturday and coronavirus-related deaths have surpassed 31,000, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 15,559 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 57 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (1,879), Tay Ninh (946), HCM City (885), Vinh Long (875), and Ca Mau (835). There were 27 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed a decrease of 583 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 8,077 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 1,630,851 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (499,513), Binh Duong (289,933), Dong Nai (96,621), Tay Ninh (69,666), and Long An (40,015).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,636,455. The country now stands 31st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 25, an additional 14,423 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,229,684.
On Saturday evening, a further 241 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 31,007. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (42), Dong Nai (39), An Giang (18), Binh Duong (18), Tien Giang (16), Tay Ninh (12), Dong Thap (12), Kien Giang (12), Can Tho (12), Vinh Long (10), Soc Trang (9), Ca Mau (7), Tra Vinh (6), Hanoi (5), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (4), Khanh Hoa (3), Binh Thuan (3), Long An (3), Hau Giang (3), Bac Lieu (3), Dak Lak (2), Phu Yen (2).
Vietnam on December 24 administered 989,988 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 144.51 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 65.35 million people having received two doses.
