Vietnam recorded an additional 7,623 Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, raising the total number of patients in the country to 177,813, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 7,618 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 3,300 in Ho Chi Minh City, 2,143 in Binh Duong, 427 in Long An, 389 in Dong Nai, 194 in Tay Ninh, 161 in Binh Thuan, 156 in Dong Thap, 150 in Can Tho, 150 in Khanh Hoa, 93 in Danang, 61 in Phu Yen, 60 in Vinh Long, 49 in Soc Trang, 29 in Ninh Thuan 24 in An Giang, 24 in Ben Tre, 24 in Hanoi, 23 in Binh Dinh, 19 in Thua Thien-Hue, 17 in Thanh Hoa, 15 in Quang Ngai, 15 in Dak Lak, 14 in Ha Tinh, 10 in Hau Giang, 10 in Quang Nam, 10 in Gia Lai, six in Nghe An, six in Binh Phuoc, five each in Bac Lieu, Dak Nong, and Quang Binh, four in Hai Duong, three in Hung Yen, three in Quang Tri, two each in Kon Tum, Son La, Lao Cai, and Bac Ninh, and one each in Lam Dong, Lang Son, Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Nam Dinh, and Ha Giang. Among these new infections, 1,865 cases were found in the communities.
Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Tuesday, the city also recorded 4,171 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.
As of Wednesday evening, 173,914 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 106,030 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.
There were five imported Covid-19 infections announced.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 177,813 including 175,484 locally-transmitted cases.
On August 4, a total of 3,501 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 54,332.
Also on Wednesday evening, a further 256 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 2,327.
The country has conducted over 7.29 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 744,331 people having received two doses.
