The municipal People's Committee issued a directive on October 7 calling for stronger preparations against heavy rain, flooding, flash floods and landslides, as well as dangerous weather conditions at sea.
The city's Civil Defence Command has instructed telecommunications providers to send heavy rain warnings to mobile phone subscribers across Danang.
Relevant agencies and hydropower plants, including Song Tranh 2, Dak Mi 4, A Vuong, Song Bung 2 and Song Bung 4, have been ordered to maintain round-the-clock monitoring and provide regular weather updates.
According to the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment, Danang recorded widespread rainfall of 40-120mm in the 24 hours to 1 am on October 8.
Some areas received significantly heavier rain, including Ky Phu with 143.6mm, Tam Tra with 148.4mm and Tam Ky with 169.6mm.
From midday October 8 to the morning of October 9, rainfall of 40-120mm is forecast across the city, with some locations expected to receive more than 150mm. Heavy rain could persist over the following days.
Authorities have warned of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, flooding in low-lying and urban districts, and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, whirlwinds and strong gusts.
Offshore, thunderstorms are forecast around the Hoang Sa archipelago and Danang waters on October 8.
On October 9, winds around Hoang Sa are expected to reach force 6, with gusts of force 7-8 and waves of 2-3 metres, creating rough sea conditions.
