“We’re worried that more rains will come, so we’ll focus on growing short-term crops in the coming time,” Mau said.

Vegetable-growing areas cover 18 hectares in the village. Every year, the village provides tonnes of vegetables to the market.

Rains have ruined over two hectares of vegetables in Thanh Dong Village, including those about to be harvested.

Up to 30 out of 240 hectares of crops in Binh Phuc Commune in Thanh Binh District are in the same situation.

According to Nguyen Van Kien in Ngoc Son Dong Village in Binh Phuc Commune, his family’s chives field is expected to be harvested in the coming month. However, rain has damaged it, resulting in a loss of VND15 million.

As many as 218 hectares of crops in Quang Nam have been flooded and harmed by rains with Duy Xuyen District hardest hit.

The shortage in supply has led to a surge in vegetable prices in markets in Quang Nam. The prices of many kinds of vegetables have doubled. For instance, a bundle of sweet potato leaves and swamp spinach has increased to VND10,000.
