According to the committee, the two women, aged 28 and 47, work at the same company in Ho Chi Minh City.

On March 13, they went to Mexico and were stuck there until June 4 due to the travel restrictions for Covid-19 prevention. They flew to Japan on June 4 and then boarded a repatriation flight back to Vietnam on June 5.

The two women together with all other passengers and the Vietnam Airlines crew members were sent to quarantine upon arrival at the Danang International Airport. They both tested positive for SARS CoV-2 on June 7 and are now being treated at the Quang Nam Provincial General Hospital.

As of the morning of June 8, Vietnam reported 331 Covid-19 patients including 191 imported cases. The country has gone 53 days in a row without any new infections among the community, the committee said.

307 patients have recovered from the disease. Among the 24 patients being treated at health facilities nationwide, six have tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 once and nine have tested negative twice.

At present, 9,088 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are under quarantine at hospitals, centralised quarantine areas, or at home.
