According to the ministry's report, one of the two new patients was a 48-year-old Indian expert who landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on October 6.
He was sent to a quarantine area in Dong Nai Province upon arrival. His second viral test taken on October 10 came positive for coronavirus and he is now being treated at the Dong Nai Lungs Hospital.
The second patient is a 33-year-old Vietnamese student who returned from the UK at Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province on October 3.
She was sent to a quarantine area upon arrival in Hai Duong Province. She first tested negative for coronavirus on October 5 but her second test on October 10 came positive. She is now being treated at the Hai Duong Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 418.
As of 6pm on October 11, a total of 1,024 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
The country has gone 38 days without reporting any new case in the community.
At present, over 15,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
