Vietnam has recorded an additional two Covid-19 deaths involving patients who suffered from underlying conditions, raising the national fatality tally to 74.
The 73rd patient was a 44-year-old man in HCM City who faced diabetes. He tested positive for Covid-19 on June 14 and was sent to Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital. Despite being given intensive care, he responded poorly to treatment and died on June 22 because of pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock and multiple organ failure.
The 74th fatality was a 68-year-old woman in the southern province of Kien Giang’s An Minh District. The patient had diabetes, high blood pressure and tuberculosis.
On June 16, she was brought to the Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. She then also failed to respond to treatments and died on June 23 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and septic shock.
The country's ongoing Covid-19 wave, the fourth and by far the most challenging, started on April 27 and has seen 11,014 infections in 47 of its 63 cities and provinces. 39 deaths have been reported in this wave.
