The area where the accident occured

According to a report from Hoi An Police Department, the accident occured at 3.40am when the two visitors were driving a motorbike on Hung Vuong Street and crashed into an electricity pole.

The two, a man and a woman, died on the spot. They were identified as Denver Christopher Marcus, 25, and Thompson Peth May, 24. They are both British citizens.

The motorbike was heavily damaged.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Director of Hoi An Police Department, Dinh Xuan Nghi, said that they needed forensic appraisal to define whether the two were driving under influence.

"We will work with the Quang Nam Province’s Department of Foreign Affairs and UK embassy for related issues," he said.

The bodies of the two victims are being kept at Quang Nam Province General Hospital.
