The major causes of the traffic accidents during the holiday were related to driving in the wrong lanes, speeding and alcohol use.
Gateway areas in Hanoi and HCM City faced serious traffic congestion on the afternoon of April 29 and the morning of April 30. Meanwhile, illegal motorbike racing also occurred in some southern localities such as Vinh Long, Can Tho, Dong Thap, Tien Giang and Dong Nai. As a result, 103 motorbikes in these localities were confiscated.
During the four-day holiday, the traffic police across the country found more than 32,600 violations. Among those, 3,400 involved alcohol use and 15 drug use. Violators were fined a total of VND32 billion (USD1.39 million).
