Vietnam witnessed a total of 11,450 traffic accidents this year, killing 6,384 people and injuring 7,804 others.

Vietnam witnessed a total of 11,450 traffic accidents this year, killing 6,384 people and injuring 7,804 others.

According to the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee, the number of cases was down 6,205 or 35.15 percent while deaths and injured people decreased by 1,245 (16.32 percent) and 5,841 (42.81 percent) against 2019's figures.

Of the accidents, 11,323 cases were on the road, killing 6,265 and injuring 7,777 others. It was followed by the railway with 95 accidents leaving 74 dead and 21 others injured; the waterways had 32 accidents that claimed 45 lives and six injured.

In 2022, the police reported 2.9 million traffic violations, collecting fines of VND4.12 trillion (USD172.99 million). As many as 388,141 driving licenses were withdrawn and 614,520 suspended.

The police fined 40,000 drivers nationwide for excessive blood alcohol levels between November 15 and December 14.
