Three members of a family in the southern province of Dong Nai have died of asphyxiation after entering a biogas facility at their pig farm on March 25.
According to a report from local police, the tragic accident occurred at a pig farm in Thong Nhat District at 6.30 am on March 25 when Nguyen Trong Thang, 24, found his 42-year-old uncle Pham Van Thuan motionless in a tank used to treat pig manure for biogas production. Thang fainted as soon as he came down, and Thang's mother Do Thi Thu Thuy, 48, also suffered the same fate when she tried to rescue them.
Thuy's husband, Nguyen Hoang Viet, saw the incident and called for help, but the three had died before being recovered from the nine-metre square, three-metre deep biogas facility.
Viet said that they raised over 900 pigs at this farm.
Experts said that methane could have caused suffocation and death.
