The three arrested suspects are Nguyen Van Son, Hac Van Phuc, both 24, and Do Minh Huy, 18, all from Son Duong Commune, Tuyen Quang Province.
Tam Dao Pass where the two girls were sexually assaulted
The Tam Dao Commune's police received a report on July 16 from a 19-year-old girl from Lao Cai Province.
According to the report, around midnight, while descending from the Tam Dao tourist area, two of her friends were stopped by a group of unknown men.
The group used weapons to threaten the girls, stole their belongings, and sexually assaulted two of them. The men later exploited images of the victims to intimidate and extort money from their families.
The police arrested the three men on July 20. At the police station, the suspects fully confessed to their offences during questioning.
