Ceremonies to see young people off for military and police service were held in many districts including 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, Tan Binh, Binh Chanh, Nha Be, Cu Chi, and Can Gio with the attendance of city leaders and representatives from the ministries of defence and public security.

Do Anh Tuyet from District 3 came to see off her son who voluntarily registered for military service. "Our family all support his decision, and we believe that he will fulfill his tasks as a soldier and become a stronger man," the mother said.

This year, the southern metropolis was assigned to recruit over 4,700 young men, including 3,800 for military service and 939 for the public security services.

There were three women who volunteered to join the army this year.

In Vietnam, two-year military service is compulsory for young men aged between 18 and 25 years old, while women can volunteer.
