Dao Anh Tuan, general director of Vietnam Railways Transport Joint Stock Company, said the Tet travel peak is expected to run from February 3 to March 8. During this period, the rail sector plans to operate 906 trains on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route, offering about 384,000 seats, up 7 per cent in both services and capacity compared with Tet 2025.

Alongside regular passenger trains, the rail operator will continue running high-end tourist carriages on the SE61/62 services throughout the Tet peak.

During the nine-day Tet holiday from February 14 to February 22, additional short-distance trains will be added to serve holiday travel. These include five services on the Sai Gon-Nha Trang route, three on Sai Gon-Tam Ky, three on Sai Gon-Danang, 14 on Hanoi-Vinh and two on Hanoi-Danang, providing about 9,700 seats in total.

As of January 19, around 227,000 Tet train tickets had been sold, equivalent to 40 per cent of the same period in 2025. Tickets on southern routes for peak days before Tet from February 7 to 14 and after Tet from February 20 to 23 have already sold out.

Amid rising demand, passenger transport companies in Ho Chi Minh City have drawn up plans to add more vehicles.

Nguyen Minh Tien, deputy general director of Mien Tay Bus Station, said the terminal expects to serve about 500,000 passengers during the Tet holiday. Based on advance bookings, some major operators such as Phuong Trang have sold about 30 per cent of their tickets, while others have also seen strong demand but still have sufficient capacity available.

A representative of the new Mien Dong Bus Station said sleeper bus tickets on several peak routes have sold out early. Operators have responded by adding high-quality seated coaches to meet demand.

Routes from Ho Chi Minh City to central and northern provinces still have seated tickets available, the representative said. The station expects to handle about 14,000 passengers a day during peak periods, mainly travelling to destinations from Khanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue. Ticket prices during Tet have been adjusted by no more than 60 per cent.
