Poor households with basic houses needed to be supported according to the Government programme 167.
During the period 2011-2015, Binh Dinh province plans to help the Government support more 2,000 houses for poor households.
In 2009-2011 stage, under the Government’s programme 167, the province has helped to build 3,050 houses at a cost of over VND109 billion, one year earlier than set target and is scheduled to build 775 houses by the end of 2010.
All these houses are 24m2 and have a value of VND25-30 million.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) in Tay Ninh province on December 14 reviewed 10 years (2000-2010) since the campaign Day for the Poor.
The province has built 10,683 houses, received donations worth more than VND280 billion, including VND130 billion from 2000 to 2010 and VND150 billion collected from a music gala in May, 2010, contributing to eradicating hunger and reducing poverty.
The province has also provided VND47 billion for housing, assisted 102,850 workers to find stable jobs, helped poor students with presents of VND2.1 billion and granted free treatment and medicine to poor people worth more than VND8 billion.
Also, on December 14, the Bac Kan Water Drainage Company held an inauguration ceremony of a system to supply fresh water in Cho Ra town, Ba Be district in Bac Kan province.
The project has provided a total investment capital of VND9.8 billion, sourced mainly from the Finnish Government with 15 percent from the State budget. It has the capacity to provide 800m3 per day and is designed to supply enough fresh water for people in Cho Ra town and other neighbouring areas by 2014.
It’s known that the Finnish Government has assisted with fresh water supplies for 8 provinces over the country and so far, 6 projects have been completed, including 3 projects in Bac Kan province: Bang Lun, Na Phac and Cho Ra towns, and the project is now prepared to work in Yen Lac town.
In addition, Vinh Long province’s Television and Radio Station, in coordination with Can Tho City’s learning promotion association, on December 14 offered 100 Tran Dai Nghia scholarships to poor students in Can Tho City, each worth VND1 million.
1,400 scholarships will be awarded to poor students in the Mekong River Delta in the future.
170 successful farming households and poor households in Lao Cai province were honoured in a review of the 2006-2010 period, organised by Lao Cai provincial People’s Committee on December 14.
At this stage, farming households doing business well had also assisted nearly 1,000 other households to escape from poverty.
More and more farmers reached incomes of VND100-350 million per household every year.
