Addressing the launching of the 12th National Week on Labor Hygiene, Safety, Fire and Explosion Prevention held in Thai Nguyen on March 14, Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong urged ministries, sectors, localities, enterprises, employers and employees, especially in private sector, to well implement regulations on the issues.
The leader said that in order for Vietnam to sharpen its competitive edges while accelerating its regional and international integration, enterprises must pay attention to preventing fire and explosion risks, combating occupational disease infections, and creating safe working environments.
The National Week on Labor Hygiene, Safety, Fire and Explosion Prevention is held annually to raise public awareness of the issues, encouraging all sectors and localities to actively save the State’s assets and the national manpower from avoidable working accidents or occupational disease infections.
Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan commented that investment for labor hygiene and safety serves to preserve the national manpower, build a safety production industry and protect the environment.
Once enterprises start pouring more investment into upgrading a safe working environment for their workers, it means they have enriched themselves smartly, the Minister affirmed.
According to the latest report of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2009, the country faced 6,250 cases of workplace accidents. Over 51% of the accidents nationwide occurred in the fields of civil and industrial building construction and transport, and more than 15% in coal and mineral mining.
