Storm Vamco hits the East Sea today

Storm Vamco has entered the East Sea, becoming the 13th storm in the area this year, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting.

By 1 am on Friday, the typhoon would be 460 kilometres to the east-southeast of Paracel Islands with wind power of 135 kilometres per hour.

In the next 24-48 hours, it would be 140 kilometres to the east of Paracel Islands.

By 1 am on Sunday, it would lay centred in the coastal area of localities from Ha Tinh to Quang Nam provinces with the wind strength of 100-115 kilometres per hour.

Storm Etau has left at least two local residents dead and many central localities submerged, according to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Etau has also resulted in widespread power outages in the provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa, affecting more than 250,000 people.
