Regarding the nation’s success in 2016, the State President highlighted the recovery of the nation’s macro-economic performance in the third and fourth quarters of the year, positive outcomes in the social security, national defense, sovereignty and integrity as well as efficiency in diplomacy, international integration and the higher status and prestige of Viet Nam in the world.

He also referred to difficulties and challenges such as unstable macro-economy, low growth quality and labor capacity compared to other nations in the region and in the world and noted on hardships facing people living in remote areas, and areas hit by flooding, drought, sea-water intrusion and environmental pollution.

When asked about Viet Nam’s achievements after 30 years of Renovation (Doi Moi), the State leader hailed the nation’s efforts in the intensive international integration at all levels in line with the global economic standards and principles. Viet Nam has established strategic partnership relations in terms of economics with many countries, signed 16 new free trade agreements and 59 nations, including large trade partners, have recognized Viet Nam as the market economy.

Mentioning to serious challenges on the territorial sovereignty and integrity, especially after complex happenings on the East Sea, State President Quang stressed that seas and islands are sacred and inseparable part of the nation. Protection of the territorial independence, sovereignty, unity and integrity is the responsibility and duty of each Vietnamese.

Viet Nam’s rights and benefits in the East Sea has been recognized and protected by the international regulations, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

Viet Nam resolutely struggles for protecting the territorial independence, sovereignty, unity and integrity, maintains the peaceful and sustainable environment for the national development as well as addresses disputes with peaceful measures based on international law.

The enhancement of the implementation of the national defense and security tasks and establishment of comprehensive people’s armed force are crucial factors to effectively launch the national socio-economic development goals, international integration process and protection of the national sovereignty and integrity.

Referring to the national achievements in the national diplomacy in 2016, Mr. Quang highlighted the Party and State diplomatic guideline of ensuring national supreme benefits in line with the basic principles of international regulations, fairness and mutual benefits.

In the context of complex happenings in the world and region, suitable, prompt and synchronous measures in diplomatic works were proposed and realized to serve the national development and raise the nation’s status in the world.

Viet Nam has remained in the spotlight in terms of political stability and development potentials. The country has tightened and deepened the relationship and friendship with other nations and partners for sustainable development.

Viet Nam has not only upheld a positive role in establishing the ASEAN Community but also successfully fulfilled its tasks as the member of organizations under the United Nations as well as made great contribution to multi-lateral forums.

The State leader expressed his belief in the determination and the unity of the whole nation and the political system in the national establishment and development in the road ahead.
