| Spam on the rise as Tet is nears |
These measures came after a recent spate of messages with dubious content, such as promotion of gambling and fortune telling. Son said that, as Tet nears, these problems are getting worse.
In order to deal with the problem, the ministry has officially asked for drastic measure to prevent messages with misleading content.
The ministry has required that Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) intensify their checks of junk messaging and spammers, informing the police of any of these activities.
VNCERT plans to cooperate closely with state investigative and security agencies in order to find solutions to stop the problem.
The ministry also asked mobile service providers to send messages warning customers about spam and fraudulent messages, in addition to making their prices for SMS services clear, before January 9.
In order to avoid being swindled, the ministry has advised that people not respond to messages with vague information or unfamiliar content.
