South Korean naval ships visit HCM City

The Republic of Korea Navy Cruise Training Task Group, including two ships ROKS Hansando and ROKS Daecheong, arrived in HCM City on Wednesday morning.

The mission led by Rear Admiral Kang Dong-goo docked at Saigon Port this morning, September 14, to start their three-day tour of the city.

This is the 15th visit by the group to Vietnam and the first visit by the Hansando to the country.

Senior Captain Le Nam Son, Second-in-Command of Brigade 125 of the Naval Region 2 Command and representatives from HCM City’s agencies, were present at the port to welcome the South Korean guests.

The visit is among activities to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea.

During the stay in HCM City, the South Korean delegation will meet representatives of Naval Region 2 Command, the High Command of Military Region 7 as well as the HCM City People’s Committee. They will also have exchange activities with the Vietnamese navy.

ROKS Hansando is South Korea’s first dedicated training ship. It is 142 metres long and has a full displacement of 4,500 tonnes. Its 470 crew are led by Rear Admiral Kang Dong-goo.

Meanwhile, the logistics support ship Dae Cheong has a full displacement of 4,200 tonnes.

After HCM City, the group is set to travel to 10 other ports in nine countries, including Malaysia, India and Australia.
