Rescue forces come to find the missing people and moving others to safe places in Phong Tho District, Lai Chau Province following a landslide on August 3

The landslide triggered by heavy rains over the past few days had damaged seven houses and many roads in Phong Tho District.

Director of the province's Agriculture and Rural Development, Ha Van Um, said on Friday evening that rescue forces faced difficulties in finding the missing people and moving others to safe places due to continuous rains and floods.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, heavy rains are returning to the northern region from August 3 to 5. Some mountainous provinces including Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, and Bac Kan should prepare for landslides and floods.

Earlier, heavy rains and floods triggered by the Typhoon Son Tinh since July 13 left 40 dead in the central and northern provinces mainly of Yen Bai, Son La and Thanh Hoa.
