The dock has been left unused at Cam Ranh Bay since August 2008. It is one of the ships that has remained there the longest. The ship's owner, Long Son Shipping and Trading JSC, has been allowed to sell its Venture Dock 2 floating dock to settle its debts.

“We have urged ship owners to regularly maintain their vessels to avoid pollution, but they have not complied, and have delayed relocation even dozens of times," said Pham Van Chuong, Deputy Director of Nha Trang Port Authority.

He noted that the authority had previously asked ships' owners to move them out of the local sea areas before August 1, but only some smaller ships were moved.

The provincial authority has allowed the Venture Dock 2 and ship Jupiter stay in place at Cam Ranh Bay until by the end of this year. But the deadline for an eight-ship float of Dai Duong Trading Service & Fishing Co. Ltd is before September 15. The VPS Moonstone and Fortune float must be moved to other places as soon as possible.

“The province will strictly deal with ship owners who try to further delay relocation to prevent avoid maritime risks and pollution," Chuong emphasised.
