Senior defense officials from ten ASEAN member states and eight dialogue partners join the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials\' Meeting Working Group Plus (ADSOM+ WG), opened on December 7 in Vietnam’s Central Highlands city of Da Lat, to discuss ways to realize the outcomes of the first ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+).
The dialogue partners are the Russian Federation, the US, Japan, India, China, the Republic of Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh said that the ADSOM-WG manifests Vietnam’s active and responsible contributions to maintaining the driving force of the ADMM+ channel for peace, stability and security in the region.
ADSOM-WG will focus on clarifying the implementation and procedures for the establishment of expert working groups (EWGs).
Indonesia, the next Chair of ADMM+, also informs the plan and agenda for the second ADMM+.
This is the last event held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense in the year of ASEAN Presidency.
At the first ADMM+ meeting, defense ministers agreed on five prioritized areas for cooperation, namely humanitarian aid and disaster rescue, marine security, counter-terrorism, military medicine, and peace-keeping activities.
