Sunday will mark the 2010 Run for Children which is an event that raises funds to aid children suffering from poverty and illness.

This year’s run, which will be held at its usual location of Thien Quang Lake, is expected to attract thousands of participants.
All event proceeds will be used to fund programmes at the Hanoi Heart Hospital, the National Hospital of Paediatrics and Heart Beat Vietnam. Funds are raised from cash donations, the sale of t-shirts, food, and corporate sponsorship.
The organising committee stays the same as last year, which includes the Embassy of Canada, Vietnam – Canada Friendship Association, Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations, Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, and jointed by Manulife Vietnam this year.
Team and group participation should contact the organisers in advance. Individuals can register on the day of the run. The organisers will provide water and coffee free of charge.
2010 marks 10 years of the runs for good causes in Hanoi, namely the Terry Fox Run and the Run for Children. Nearly 43,000 people have supported the programme and helped raise more than VND 3 billion ($150,000) for cancer research and to support children with cancer and heart diseases.
With its new name, the Run for Children Hanoi attracted 5,000 participants in 2009 and raised approximately VND 900 million ($45,000), an increase of 80% over the previous run. The funds were used to support more than 50 children from poor families who have cancer or heart diseases the National Hospital of Paediatrics, Hanoi Heart Hospital and Heart Beat Vietnam programs.
