Ho Trong Phuong, director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the relocation of the monkeys has got support from local residents.

According to Phuong, Hon Tra Island is unsuitable for monkeys to live as it is too small. Feeding the animals can affect their natural instincts, so it was necessary to move them to the forest.

Hon Tra Island covers 1.5 hectares in Binh Son District.
