At a government meeting on Thursday morning, PM Pham Minh Chinh said that between April 27 and May 19, the country recorded 1,539 locally-infected Covid-19 patients in 28 cities and provinces. This pandemic wave has been harder to predict.

Covid-19 testing in Bac Giang Province
According to the government leader, Covid-19 has attacked industrial parks in localities which do not have much experience in Covid-19 prevention and control. Meanwhile, neighbouring countries such as Laos and Cambodia are still facing the spread of Covid-19. The appearance of the highly contagious UK and Indian variants of Covid-19 found in lots of cities and provinces has further challenged the country.
The nation has been receiving a large number of Vietnamese people returning from abroad, adding more pressure to the country’s Covid-19 fight.
The rising number of illegal migrants into the country has posed difficulties, while many people and agencies have ignored Covid-19 prevention regulations.
Other problems are related to the lax management of migrant quarantining and the lack of Covid-19 prevention and control experience in some localities.
Chinh emphasised that the strict application of the Ministry of Health’s facemask, disinfection, distance, no gatherings and health declarations and vaccination expansion policy were the most effective measures to fight against Covid-19 in Vietnam.
It was necessary to intensify Covid-19 testing capacity and expand Covid-19 vaccination. The Ministry of Health needs to closely co-operate with localities to adopt drastic measures for Covid-19 prevention and control at industrial parks. The Industry and Trade Ministry has prepared the supply of goods for affected people, particularly those at areas hardest hit by the pandemic.
