The northern and northern central regions of Vietnam are facing heavy rains
Many areas in the northern and northern central region have seen rainfall of up 500 mm, resulting in serious flooding, particularly in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.
The rains have been forecasted to continue in the coming days.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control to cooperate with concerned agencies and localities to quickly respond to weather conditions.
Localities need to urgently take people in areas which face high risk of being isolated by flooding and landslides to safe places. The leader also insisted that basic necessities should be prepared for relocated people.
It was important to ensure safety for projects which are underway as well as prepare rescue forces to timely respond to incidents.
By late Wednesday, around 1,210 houses in Quy Chau District in Nghe An were 1-5 metres under water. Some 5,000 local people have been evacuated, meanwhile, 14,906 students have been off from school.
