PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc expected Viet Nam to be listed among top 15 most developed agriculture nations in the world in the next 10 years at a meeting on reviewing works in 2018 and launching tasks for 2019 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

PM attends agriculture ministry’s meeting on tasks for 2019
Speaking at the event, the PM highlighted outstanding achievements of the ministry in 2018 including rankings second in Southeast Asia in exporting agricultural products, a total number of 18 agricultural processing plants built and put into operation and reduction of 173 out of the 345 business conditions (reaching 50%).
The PM proposed Viet Nam join the world’s top 15 developed agriculture nations and the world’s top 10 agricultural processing countries, asking the sector to become the center of the world’s wood processing and exporter and the world’s largest shrimp producer.
He required seeking for more measures and upholding creative ideas to achieve the target of making a growth of at least 3%, and gaining US$42-43 billion from exporting in 2019.
Mr. Phuc suggested launching better laws and eliminating backward regulations to enhance the development of the agricultural sector.
It is necessary to restructure the agricultural growth model and promote new rural establishment, focusing on the establishment of key products at national, provincial and local levels, he said.
The PM stressed the importance of market forecasting works, including balancing supply and demand, development of new markets and building trade marks in agriculture from rice, shrimps, rice and tra fish.
The Government leaders asked to strengthen the application of science and technology, giving priority to high-tech and biological technology, particularly the achievements of the fourth industrial revolution, artificial intelligence and large database.
Mr. Phuc also requested to closely follow the developments of weather and disasters and actively cope with natural calamity.
