Vietnam Railways unveils smart train with AI-powered robot

Vietnam Railways on May 29 unveiled a modern train equipped with Wi-Fi, 5G connectivity and an AI-powered robot as part of its digital transformation drive.

The new QT3/4 train was introduced on the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen route and is designed as a multi-functional service combining passenger transport, digital connectivity and onboard amenities.

According to VNR, the train consists of six specialised carriages, including a command coach, VIP seating and sleeper coaches, a premium passenger coach, a rotating-seat carriage and a dining car.

The project forms part of the railway sector's strategy to improve service quality and develop a more modern transport system in line with Vietnam's digital transformation agenda.

One of the train's key features is a command coach equipped with modern communications technology, allowing meetings, operational coordination and decision-making while travelling.

Railway officials said the carriage could also serve as a mobile command centre during emergencies such as natural disasters, security incidents or transport disruptions.

The meeting room can accommodate up to 20 participants and is equipped with digital communication systems designed to support remote coordination and real-time decision-making.

The train is equipped with 5G technology, enabling uninterrupted communications and data transmission across the railway network, including remote mountainous areas.

According to Dao Anh Tuan, General Director of Railway Transport JSC, the application of new technologies is intended to improve passenger experiences while supporting the railway sector's transition towards digital operations.

He said the initiative reflects the industry's efforts to diversify services, enhance operational efficiency and build a more modern image for Vietnam's railway network.

Following the launch journey, the command coach and associated service carriages are expected to enter commercial operation across the country's railway system.

VNR described the QT3/4 service as an important pilot project that combines passenger transport, operational management, technology and onboard services in a single rail platform.
